Summer in Hue

http://summer.ucr.edu/travelstudy/2007/vietnam.html

"Working in conjunction with Hue University College of Foreign Languages,
we offer two 4-credit courses, one on modern Vietnamese history and the
other an independent study involving internships, research and a written
paper. We stay inside the old city (thanh noi) and classes are held at the
college. Students take an afternoon TTh course in Vietnamese and have 2
on 1 or 1 on 1 tutoring with Hue language teachers. There are trips to
Hanoi and Hoi An as well as a one-day excursion to the DMZ area. Each student
develops an independent study project that may involve service learning,
taking local courses, and local historical research. Students last year
studied Vietnamese martial arts, took Hue cooking classes, volunteered
in a homeopathic medical clinic, studied local religions, and conducted oral
history interviews with veterans.

"If you have interested students, encourage them to contact the program
coordinator (mely.fitzgerald@ucr.edu) or me (dbiggs@ucr.edu). This
program is also open to nontraditional and nonmatriculated students."
